Bed and Breakfast Inns of Missouri has several of our incredible inns near the Katy Trail to help you enjoy the experience even more. Keep reading to learn all about this impressive trail and our inns nearby!

What is The Katy Trail?

The Katy Trail, or “The K-T”, was originally a railroad – specifically the Missouri-Kansas-Texas Railroad. It was converted into a path for outdoor enthusiasts and now spans 240 miles of Missouri, from Machens to Clinton.

Scenery

A large section of the trail follows the Missouri River, giving you incredible views as you walk, bike, jog, or ride. Some areas you’ll go through are wide open fields, while others are surrounded by forest. There are even sections that pass through limestone bluffs that are incredible to look at.

Along the Way

There are a whopping 30 access points along the 240 miles of trail. Many of the access points have friendly local businesses that rent bikes so you don’t have to haul your own to and from the trail.

Also, because the trail used to be a railroad, there are a lot of cool historic things to see along the way. Look for train tunnels, bridges, depots, and even railcars!

Another huge perk of this Rail-to-Trail path is the fact that it takes you through several quaint, beautiful, and fun towns along the way. Stop in at nearby shops to peruse local artwork or find the perfect antique piece to complete your home design. There are even several wineries along the way!

Must-See on the Trail

Katy Depot

The Katy Depot is a train depot made from local limestone in 1896. Go inside and explore what the railroad era was like and learn about the history of railroads from great exhibits.

Jefferson City to Rocheport

This stretch of the trail is probably the most popular as it is incredibly beautiful. As you move along the trail, you’ll be surrounded by some of the most beautiful Missouri scenery.

Horseback Friendly Trail

While horses aren’t allowed on every part of the trail, they are more than welcome in the area between Sedalia and Clinton, MO. This encompasses 35 miles of the trail and there are several parking lots that will accommodate horse trailers to make it even easier to enjoy! This area is also open to hikers and cyclists so everyone can enjoy the space together.
