Bed & Breakfasts… What’s true and what’s false? Today, Bed & Breakfast Inns of Missouri is diving into the top common myths about Bed & Breakfasts to help you know what to expect for your stay at a Missouri inn. Keep reading to see if you’ve heard some of these top myths!

Breakfast is Basically the Same at a Hotel

No way! Breakfast at an inn is leaps and bounds better than what you find at the typical hotel buffet. Hotels have to feed potentially hundreds of people in a morning. That means what they serve for breakfast has to be simple and fast. Usually, it also means that a lot of it is frozen, mass-produced, and cheaply made with subpar ingredients. At a bed & breakfast, you can count on a high-quality, delicious meal made with fresh ingredients just for you. No lukewarm eggs that have been sitting in a chaffing dish for hours collecting condensation… yuck.

Inns Aren’t as Clean as Hotels

Hotels aren’t as clean as you might think. With so many rooms to clean, it can be difficult for staff at a hotel to truly deep-clean every room every time. At bed & breakfasts, innkeepers take their time to make sure every space is thoroughly clean and ready for you to relax in and enjoy. At BBIM, each inn goes through a rigorous inspection by a trained independent inspector and must receive approval by the association’s board before it is accepted for membership. Quality, guaranteed!

Bed & Breakfasts are Too Expensive

Just like you’ll find in the hotel industry, there is a range of levels in the Bed & Breakfast world. While there are some high-end locations with luxury price tags, that is not the only option available. Many bed & breakfasts have very affordable rates, especially when you consider everything that is included in your stay. Plus, many innkeepers offer discounts, special packages, and other great deals that you won’t find at corporate hotels. One of the most important things to remember when you’re booking with a bed & breakfast is to book direct! Booking your stay directly with the B&B will not only save you money, but it will better support the owners without a third party taking a percentage for themselves.

Inns are Bad for Business Travelers

Inns are actually becoming more popular for business travelers as innkeepers now provide Wi-Fi and several amenities that make the businessperson’s stay convenient and comfortable. You get to enjoy all the comforts of home while still taking care of business – we call that a win-win!

There’s Not Enough Privacy

Sometimes people are concerned that the rooms in bed and breakfasts won’t be completely private. Aren’t they just bedrooms after all? No! All of our member inns at Bed and Breakfast Inns of Missouri are required to ensure all sleeping rooms are completely private when their doors are closed, and there must be locks on the doors. Also, if bathrooms are shared, they must provide locks on every door. At our bed and breakfasts, you can feel safe and secure while you enjoy your beautiful, comfortable stay.

Bonus Myth: Missouri is Boring

False! Many of our Missouri Attractions are centered around our rich history. Our grassy plains and forested mountains hosted the pre-historic Mississippian culture whose mounds can be found here to this day. The Mississippi River on our eastern border served as a highway for the French trappers who founded St. Louis here in 1764. After the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, Missouri played a central role in the westward expansion of the United States, earning us the nickname “Mother of the West.” The Pony Express, Oregon Trail, Santa Fe Trail, and California Trail all began here. Missouri attractions also include being the home to Anheuser-Busch, brewer of Budweiser beer, while the Missouri Rhineland and Ozarks give us Missouri wine. Our state counts President Harry S. Truman, Mark Twain, Walt Disney, and Chuck Berry as famous sons. We’re also the birthplace of ragtime music, Kansas City jazz, and the St. Louis Blues.
